I am a writer and an artist based in the North East of Scotland. Alongside my artistic practice, I also work as a Poetry Therapy Practitioner, and have been facilitating Words For Wellbeing workshops in Aberdeen City and Shire since 2010.
I believe that everyone is creative and that engaging in creative activities greatly enhances our sense of wellbeing. Enabling people to reconnect with their creativity or to explore it more deeply is what I enjoy most about the work I do. My workshops offer you the opportunity to slow down and explore your thoughts and feelings using the technique of Free Writing. The sharing of your own story, and witnessing the stories of others, is a key element.
In my own practice, I write poetry using traditional and modern poetic forms about wellbeing – wellbeing found through our connection to nature, each other and our own internal landscape and what happens when the boundaries of our wellbeing are disrupted or broken. My current work includes a series of erasure poems combining found poetry and drawing inspired by the labyrinth, an ancient wellbeing tool I also use in my work.
I was Writer-In-Residence in The Wild Garden at Woodend Barn, Banchory throughout 2017, leading their wellbeing community project Flourish.
I am a member of Lapidus, the organisation for writing and wellbeing. I am also working towards accreditation with the International Academy of Poetry Therapy. I became an Accredited Labyrinth Facilitator with Veriditas, the world-wide labyrinth organisation, in 2013.
My book ‘Tememos 23‘ collects together poems and photographs from my time as Writer-In-Residence in the Wild Garden at The Barn. I also created a collection of 23 Poetry Postcards pairing my original cyanotype photographs with the 23 found poems I wrote using the 23 words I hung in the garden for the project. Both are available directly from The Barn or by e-mailing me.
My poems have also appeared in The Elgin Writer’s Anthology, Pushing Out The Boat and Bundles Of Bog Cotton, an anthology of writing from Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres. My erasure poem, Body Wishes was Specially Commended in The Elbow Room Prize in 2016.
